EYE CARE MICROSURGICAL CENTRE
Cataract Services at Sukruthi
• Understanding a cataract, and how modern micro-incisional surgery safely restores visual clarity, and how we help you select the ideal intraocular lens (IOL) to match your lifestyle and visual goals.
• Why & when one come for this service: To treat blurry vision, glare, and color fading caused by cataracts through gentle, quick, and highly precise microsurgery performed by our experienced surgical team.
An Overview
· What is this: A cataract is a natural clouding of the eye’s internal lens that develops as we age. We perform micro-incisional cataract surgery to gently remove this cloudy lens and replace it with an advanced, crystal-clear intraocular lens (IOL).
· Why it matters: As a cataract progresses, it reduces your functional vision, making everyday activities like driving, reading, watching television, and recognizing faces difficult. Our modern cataract surgery permanently restores natural contrast, color brightness, and visual sharpness.
· Who typically needs it: Adults—most commonly aged 50 and above—experiencing age-related lens clouding, or individuals with secondary cataracts resulting from diabetes, eye trauma, or long-term medication use.
· Common symptoms or reasons people visit: Faded or yellowed colors, difficulty driving at night due to glare and halos around headlights, frequent changes in spectacle prescription, or double vision in a single eye.
Workflow at Sukruthi Eye Care
· Advanced Pre-Operative Biometry: Before surgery, we take precise optical measurements of your eye length and corneal curvature to calculate the exact power and design of your custom intraocular lens.
· Micro-Incisional Cataract Surgery: We perform this advanced technique to remove the cloudy lens through a small, self-sealing incision . We then insert your new foldable IOL into place as per your selection.
· Premium Intraocular Lens (IOL) Customization: We offer a full portfolio of modern lens implants tailored to your specific visual needs:
Monofocal IOLs: Designed to provide clear distance vision, with glasses typically used for reading.
Advanced Monofocal IOLs: Corrects distance and intermediate vision reducing the need for glasses
Multifocal & Extended Depth of Focus (EDOF) IOLs: Advanced premium lenses designed to give you clear vision across multiple distances (far, intermediate, and near), greatly reducing your need for glasses.
Toric IOLs: Customized to correct pre-existing astigmatism along with cataracts.
Equipment we use at Sukruthi Eye Care
Keratometer
Purpose: to measure the Corneal Curvature. We use either the Zeiss Keratometer or the Axis AutoKeratometer or the Tomey Optical Biometer to get the precise readings.
High-Precision Biometers
Purpose: For measurement of length of the eyeball and other internal measurements, we use either the Echorule2 Ultrasound Biometer or theTomey Optical Biometer
Benefit: The above two readings allow us to calculate your IOL power with sub-millimeter accuracy for predictable visual outcomes.
Advanced Surgery Systems
Purpose: No Injection, No Stitch Experience
Benefit: Enables us to gently remove the cataract with minimal or zero energy, ensuring fast corneal recovery and clear vision at the earliest.
High-Definition Surgical Microscopes
Purpose: Ultra-clear intraoperative visualization
Benefit: Provides our surgeons with enhanced depth perception and illumination to execute precise lens positioning.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
· Q: Is cataract surgery painful?
A: No. We perform the procedure using anesthetic numbing eye drops, so you feel no sharp pain. You may only notice mild light sensations and gentle pressure during the 10-to-15-minute procedure.
· Q: How long will my new intraocular lens (IOL) last?
A: Your artificial intraocular lens is permanent and designed to last a lifetime. It does not degrade, age, or require replacement.
· Q: How soon after surgery can I resume my normal activities?
A: Most of our patients resume light activities, reading, and watching TV within a day or two. We advise avoiding heavy lifting, swimming, sexual activities or rubbing your eye for atleast two weeks to allow full healing. Please enquire with us for this period in your specific case
· Q: Will I still need glasses after cataract surgery?
A: This depends on the type of IOL you choose. If you opt for a standard Monofocal lens, you will likely need reading glasses. If you choose a Multifocal or EDOF IOL, we can correct distance, intermediate, and near vision to reduce your dependence on glasses. Please also understand that the premium lenses will need surgery in both eyes to get the full potential of the lenses.
· Q: Can cataracts grow back after surgery?
A: No, a cataract cannot grow back once removed. However, the natural capsule supporting the lens can occasionally become cloudy months or years later. If this happens, we treat it in minutes using a simple, painless outpatient laser procedure (YAG Capsulotomy).
